You can see the whole story here.
This is a superb example of how we, the citizens of Australia, can make ourselves heard in the face of Government apathy and Opposition stupidity. But the fight is not over yet: the Coalition is going to take court action. We all need to follow this story and make sure we understand the implications. If each and every one of us is alert to the dangers facing our coastline and marine life, we may be able to avoid adding to the mass extinctions and rapid depletions that are happening to fish stock and other marine life all over the world's oceans.
One thing I've already learnt is that seagrass is a vital part of our environment. It used to be all over our coast, but has virtually disappeared from many urban coastlines. I've also been learning about the hooded plover which I was completely unaware of until I moved down to the coast. Until their nests were marked out and protected by simple fencing, people were quite obliviously walking over them and crushing the eggs.
More to come this weekend - we are kayaking in the mangroves at Port Adelaide. I'll be taking my camera, hoping to get some interesting wildlife shots!Black Dog Galleryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12709076983111478921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8857298629651506014.post-10261556359020313422013-02-11T17:12:00.001-08:002013-02-11T17:17:14.780-08:00Happy Chinese New Year! Now is a good time for me to resume blogging after a very quiet period. Black Dog is getting very arthritic these days so we are taking far shorter walks, but she's still determined to help out with this year's Walk in Her Shoes Challenge
She has allowed me to put her image on a tshirt to suport the cause: anyone who joins our team can have a free tshirt!
But you might just like to donate to a good cause
Thanks to acclaimed poet and fellow blogger Mike Hopkins, Adelaide poets are getting a fair hearing at last. Follow their progress on http://mistakenforarealpoet.wordpress.com and listen in to The Poet Stripped Bare on RN on Sunday June 3 at 10.05am. To hear more about the Nameless Project, look up Streetcast's interview with Royce on Radio Adelaide.

While all this was happening, I was being enthralled by William Kentridge at ACMI and the Persian illustrated poets at the Victorian State Library. The first one is sadly finished now, but the other one is on for a while to come - the catalogue is well worth investing in, as the pictures are very small and the room dimly lit. For a dose of Rumi, try this.Black Dog Galleryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12709076983111478921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8857298629651506014.post-64636861064609966212012-03-20T05:01:00.006-07:002012-03-20T05:14:37.342-07:00The Endeavour departs

This is the Endeavour replica leaving Adelaide, photographed by my friend Jose. She was also highly insulted when I forsook her company for three nights and spent them shipkeeping on the Endeavour replica in Port Adelaide. It's almost Chinese New Year so it seems like a good time to start a new blog for 2012. The Black Dog enjoys her daily romp in the surf and the subsequent creep through the undergrowth stalking crested pigeons. The studio has slightly given way to rigging the boat recently, so I need to get down to business and start ordering t-shirts. I've discovered men are rather fond of this one: http://www.redbubble.com/people/mimidesigns/works/3980538-winter-waltz-the-tshirt I thought it was more of a girl's style, but there's no accounting for taste.Black Dog Galleryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12709076983111478921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8857298629651506014.post-51222431532787504222011-11-23T00:52:00.000-08:002011-11-23T00:57:23.801-08:00Well I have no idea how many people are following this blog, but they've probably all given up as it's been so long since I did any posting. A lot has been happening: I have moved, for a start. Only 5 minutes away from Port Noarlunga, but now much closer to the dedicated dog beach, which is wonderful. And Black Dog Gallery is now Black Dog Studio and Gallery. For the moment the Gallery is merely virtual, while the Studio is still coming together. Watch this space to see the work in progress.Black Dog Galleryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12709076983111478921noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8857298629651506014.post-11429984711911333022011-09-01T05:32:00.000-07:002011-09-01T05:42:12.462-07:00Black Dog has a real name: I thought it was spelt Portia or possibly Porsche, but I have decided it must be spelt Porchia. Thanks to Amy Bodossian for putting me onto this esteemed Argentinian poet, who is a very fitting namesake for my thoughtful, extremely empathetic and constant companion.

Black Dog and I had to tear ourselves away from the beach on Sunday where we were being treated to the sight of a mother and baby whale cavorting in the waves. I hope this Sunday will be fine if not quite so sunny.Black Dog Galleryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12709076983111478921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8857298629651506014.post-8056492859492761262011-08-07T19:38:00.000-07:002011-08-07T19:42:52.965-07:00At last! Black Dog is ready to start blogging. All we have to say today is that we are looking forward to meeting some of you this Sunday, August 14, from 2-6pm, at the Black Dog Gallery in Port Noarlunga. Tea and cookies will be provided. Come and browse the pictures and the poetry books, talk about art, poetry and everything else in the universe, and let me know what you'd like to see happening in the space.Black Dog Galleryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12709076983111478921noreply@blogger.com1
